Samsung’s first FE (Fan Edition) version came out with the Galaxy S20 in 2020. Since then, the company has kept making these terminals as an exciting version of price and features, thanks to how well they sold because of their cost and features.
So, the Galaxy S21 FE didn’t come out until the first few months of 2022, almost half a year later than planned if we use the same schedule as the last generation.
Since the release dates keep moving, it’s not clear if there will be a new version of the Galaxy S22 FE. Since we are now in the year 2023, we will tell you about any leaks or rumors that have appeared online about when the terminal will arrive or if the FE for the next version will be canceled.
When will Samsung release the S22 (now S23) FE?
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 foldable phones came out on August 10, 2022. The Galaxy S22 FE, on the other hand, didn’t come out until October 20, 2022. A domestic source, according to a post by the Korean leaker Lanzuk on the social media site Naver, says that the Galaxy S22 FE model won’t come out this year (automatically translated from Korean).
He says that the fact that the firmware for the model hasn’t changed is proof. When Samsung stopped making the Galaxy Note series, the Galaxy S22 Ultra took its place. Since the leaker didn’t want to get too wet, we can assume that Samsung may drop the S22 FE project altogether.
In April, a leaker named Chun wrote on Twitter that the S22 FE was not being made at the time. The chipset for the phone has already been leaked, which makes us doubtful.
In the past, these models have been shown to the public on these dates:
- The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE: October 2020.
- The Galaxy S21: January 2022 Samsung.
Samsung first showed off the Galaxy S21 FE at the CES show in Las Vegas at the beginning of January 2021, but it didn’t go on sale to the public until January 11. Since there is a lack of chips right now, it is possible that Samsung has decided to stop making this model.
Has Samsung canceled the S22 FE?
Several news sources have said that the S22 FE might not be made available to the public. This is sad news for this time of year.
Lanzuk said that this was the same situation the Galaxy Note line was in before it was suddenly canceled in favor of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, so the phone is not likely to come out in 2022. Because of this, we think that the S22 FE may have been completely thrown out, even though the leaker didn’t say that for sure. Someone else, like leaker Chun, said on Twitter in April of last year that the S22 FE “wasn’t even in development at that time.”
SamMobile later said, based on unnamed sources, that the phone had been canceled and that the company’s own research had not found any evidence of a Galaxy S22 FE model with the reference number SM-S900.
The Elec, which is another Korean news source, tells a different story. He confirms that the S22 FE has died and praises the S22 Ultra for how well it has done (it sold better than expected, so Samsung is repurposing components to ramp up production).
But the site says that this is only a temporary setback for FE and that Samsung will still release the Galaxy S23 FE next year as planned, with 3 million units expected to be made.
Samsung Galaxy S22 FE price?
When the terminals are finally shown to the public, the costs will be clear. We like to play with the figures to try out different ways to place the device. We can figure out how much it’s worth by comparing it to other products on the market.
Samsung S20 FE:
- 4G: €649/ 14,422.62 MXN
- 5G: €749 / 16,644.90 MXN
Samsung S21 FE (5G):
- 6 GB + 128 GB: €749 / MXN 16,644.90
- 8 GB + 256 GB: €819 / MXN 18,200.50
The S20 FE came in both 4G and 5G versions, but the S21 FE comes with 5G built into every configuration right out of the box. So, the S22 FE can expect the same conditions in the future.
If Samsung keeps its current pricing structure for the new model, the base model should cost about €749, assuming that Samsung doesn’t change it.
What are the specs of Galaxy S22 FE?
Since Samsung hasn’t confirmed that the Galaxy S22 FE exists, there isn’t a lot of information about its features right now. But we have heard some interesting rumors, including one from Notebookcheck that surprised us.
A post on the Chinese social media site Weibo from what seemed to be a tech insider said that Samsung was thinking about putting a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset in their next smartphone, which would be released in 2022.
It isn’t clear if the device in question is a Galaxy S22 FE or a Galaxy A53 Pro. Since the latter doesn’t seem to exist yet (there are no Pro versions of the A-series phones), this suggests that Samsung is thinking about adding a new product level. Business Korea says that MediaTek chips will be used in both the S22 FE and the Galaxy S23 next year, which backs this up. But the report doesn’t say which MediaTek chips were used.
The report says that “about half of Galaxy S22 FE smartphones” will use MediaTek processors, but it doesn’t say whether the other devices will use Snapdragon processors, Samsung’s own Exynos processors, or some other processor brand entirely. both.
It’s an interesting choice, considering that Samsung has almost always used Snapdragon chips in FE phones in the past, but has used different chips in different cell phone models for different regions.
MediaTek has been making a name for itself in recent years, and the Dimensity 9000 is the first flagship-level SoC it has made. First reports say it might work about the same as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Aside from the processor and battery size, not much is known about the Galaxy S22 FE. However, the main camera sensor may be Samsung’s own 108MP Isocell HM6.
We expect it to have three cameras like the Galaxy S21 FE, as well as a large 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, Full HD+ resolution, and a hole in the middle, like the Galaxy S21 FE. The hole for the front camera would also stay the same.
Let’s look at the Galaxy S21 FE’s features to get an idea of what the Galaxy S22 FE might have to offer.
